Why does a cat have a stomach?

When a cat's stomach hangs, this is not always a cause for concern. This does not necessarily mean that the pet is sick or some negative processes have begun in his body. But there are times when a cat's skin hangs on his stomach and this is an occasion to contact a veterinarian to examine the animal and find out the cause of this phenomenon.

When the fat tail is normal

The bag on the stomach is sometimes called fat tail. This is the skin in the form of folds between the hind legs. The question arises: why is it formed? For cats of the British breed, this is quite normal. After a while, the bag itself disappears and two or three noble folds form in the lower abdomen of the cat.

If the bag hanging down below the abdomen becomes unexpectedly larger, and the rest of the animal remains in its former size - this is evidence that the cat or cat was overfed. The accumulated fat causes the stomach to sag. This is not a reason to panic.

In general, this phenomenon is normal, however, it is worth revising the cat's diet, frequency of feeding, so that the fat layer does not accumulate. But you need to know that kurdyuk is a natural affiliation of some cat breeds, not only British. For them, the presence of a small fat bag in the back of the body is quite normal. These breeds include:

  • short-haired Scottish cat;
  • Bengal cat
  • straight Scottish breed;
  • Sphinxes of Canada;
  • pixy beans.

Each of these breeds has its own characteristics, and there is nothing strange that they have fatty deposits on their belly. For example, in the artificially bred pixybob breed (a cross between a lynx and a cat), the fat fold between the hind legs necessarily hangs. And in Canadian sphinxes, folds on the skin appear in the first months of life, this is a natural state of "naked cats".

Bag contents

It’s clear why the cat’s stomach hangs - fat accumulates in it. If this is a natural state, then trying to remove it will be a futile exercise. Since in this case, the diet for the cat becomes reality, which can only lead to negative consequences, i.e., weight loss, but at the same time, with the change in the shape of the cat’s body (weight loss), the bag itself will not disappear.

Well, for breeds that are characterized by the presence of such a formation and it is generally not recommended to take any action to reduce it. Since for them it is natural and normal. Here substances accumulate that the cat's body will use in extreme conditions. And there is no cause for concern now or in the future.

When worth worrying

So, the cat is one year old and a slight deposition in the back of the belly has long been noticeable. It turns out that these are not structural features of the body and not belonging to a particular breed, which allows such a formation. In this case, this may indicate hormonal failure. Then you need to contact the veterinarian, since sterilization will be necessary, which will be the way out of the situation.

A sagging belly can also indicate diseases that need to be identified on time. Just sagging skin and points to them. Therefore, it is worth paying attention also to such symptoms.:

  • when you click on the education, the cat is hurt;
  • coat color changes in this place;
  • the stomach itself becomes larger;
  • In the lower part of the cat's body, characteristic swelling is visible.

All these are signs that some processes are taking place leading to the disease, or the cat is already sick. Externally, it is not so difficult to determine whether a sick cat is or not: it becomes less active, eating poorly, losing weight, but at the same time, the stomach stands out. All these are signs of diseases, such as: constipation, swelling, bloating, the presence of worms, obstruction, ascites, and more.
