A magnificent fur coat is a pride of the mustached queen. The flowing, soft and shiny hair of a Persian woman caresses the skin. Having plunged a hand into the warm plush of the Briton, as if you touch the cloud! But sometimes this magnificence causes inconvenience to its owner or its owners. A haircut helps out - a simple way to throw off a woolen outfit for a while.
Why do cats get their hair cut?
Haircuts can be hygienic or exhibition. It is more reasonable to entrust an exhibition haircut to a specialist who knows all the nuances of preparing for the examination of this particular breed. Hygienic haircuts do, pursuing a variety of goals:
- facilitate the care of a cat;
- remove tangles;
- prevent the appearance of wool on furniture and clothing during molting;
- accelerate the treatment of skin diseases or extensive injuries;
- some cats are sheared before delivery or just for beauty.
It is impossible to cut hair shortly in the hot season, if the cat walks on the street. Contrary to popular belief, a thick fur coat does not interfere with the cat in the summer, but protects it from the scorching rays of the sun like the clothes of a Bedouin.
Siberian, Burmese, Norwegian forest and other semi-long-haired cats restore their hair length for about five months. Persians grow a rich coat even longer. After the haircut, the color and texture of the coat can change, which is important to consider if the pet is participating in exhibitions.
How to cut cats
Cats are freedom-loving and independent creatures, and therefore the vast majority of pets do not tolerate fettering manipulations. Claw shortening can still be experienced, but the clipper, buzzing and vibrating in close proximity to the skin, turns the affectionate pet into a desperate warrior. The cat wriggles all over, hisses, tries to bite and scratch the offender. To persuade a predator is almost impossible - only the most unflappable cat agrees to lie down calmly while the master conjures over her image. Therefore, you have to immobilize a cat in one of the ways:
- sedatives calm the pet, reducing muscle activity. It is convenient, but unsafe, because you cannot be sure that the chosen remedy will not affect the animal’s health;
- general anesthesia is used only to immobilize young healthy cats. A dangerous method, since even a pet who has repeatedly undergone anesthesia without side effects can suffer this time;
- manual fixation is the safest, but will require some skill from the owner and assistant. A cat that does not have a strong psyche can fall into deep stress.
Where to cut a cat?
Show cats, accustomed to a change of scenery, calmly transfer trips to the salon. But homemade murks, who never leave the walls of an apartment, experience real horror, being in an unfamiliar place. For such pets, a haircut at home is ideal. You can invite a wizard at any convenient day. The process will take about two hours, the groomer will bring all the necessary things with him. You do not need to prepare a cat. The only caveat is that you will have to find a suitable work surface, for example, a stable ironing board or a narrow table.
You can cut the cat yourself. If the pet is aggressive, you will need a muzzle or a "Elizabethan" collar. You need to act together, confidently, but not rudely. At home, without the presence of a specialist, immobilize a cat should only be done manually, without the use of any drugs.
The owner will need hydrogen peroxide, scissors with rounded tips, a large wet towel and a clipper. You can use the usual "human" tool, but such machines get dull faster and do worse with thick hair. If this is the first experience for the owner, it is better to work with a 5 mm nozzle. It is quite difficult to remove the coat very shortly without injuring the cat. First you need to get used to the typewriter and gain experience by studying all the anatomical bends of the cat's body.
So, the pet needs to be laid on a flat surface. The assistant puts the cat on its side, holding it by its paws: in one hand the front legs, in the other hind legs. It is advisable that the cat trust the person who holds it. It is more convenient if the pet is turned towards the assistant by its muzzle, and a person with a typewriter is standing behind her. Removing the hair, you need to slightly stretch the skin - if this is not done, the knives can catch a fold of skin, which will hurt the cat. Wounds are treated with hydrogen peroxide.
The most popular haircut is the “lion cub”: on the head there is a lush mane, on the legs of a sock, on the tail is a brush. Wool can be cut both in the direction of growth and against the growth of hairs. In the latter case, the haircut will be shorter. Usually, the wool begins to be removed from the sides, in layers, moving to the ridge. Then go to the stomach, legs and tail. It is better not to touch the hair on the machine with a scissors. Mustaches cannot be cut. Particular delicacy should be shown by touching the machine to the armpits and the inside of the thighs - in these places the skin is very thin and sensitive.
Koltuny located close to the skin, you can not try to cut off the machine. It is necessary to untangle all the nodules with your hands in advance, carefully cut with scissors or use a slitter cutter.
Having finished the haircut, a gauze swab dipped in water is removed from the ears and muzzle. Then you need to wipe the cat with a damp towel so that the cut hairs do not scatter around the apartment. That's all - it remains only to reassure the favorite, giving her the most delicious piece.
